Literature Text

Becky walked down the street with John, her brother. John had promised Becky that he’d walk her back home and he tended to keep his promises as he was doing exactly that. John was being extra careful around strangers, as he would bring Becky closer to him when a stranger walked past or when one of them looked at him and Becky.

Becky rolled her eyes at her brother’s protectiveness. Sure, she knew that he was doing this for her safety but he didn’t have to be so…clingy.

Becky watched as John glared at yet another stranger that passed them, wrapping his arms around Becky’s shoulders in a protective brother manner and bringing her closer to him.

Becky sighed. “Brother, could you stop doing that?” she asked, a small sign of annoyance in her tone but she did a bloody good job of hiding it.

John let go of his sister and took a small sidestep away from her to give her some space. “Sorry Becky.” He apologized, looking around the street. “I just don’t want you getting hurt again.”

Becky sighed once more but couldn’t help but let a small smile grace her face. She was so thankful for a brother like John. “Thanks John but I’m sure we’ll be okay. I highly doubt anyone off the street will randomly jump out at us and knock us out.” She said, giggling at her response.

“Well you never know!” John remarked as he crossed his arms over his chest, a small pout forming onto his face but he made sure that it looked ‘manly’.

Becky rolled her eyes once more but smiled. “Look, we’re nearly home so could you try and maybe, I don’t know, walk normally down the street until we get there?”

John let out a small huff of annoyance before grumbling a small “fine.”

Becky smiled triumphantly as she walked down the street to her house, her bag hitting her back continuously in a rhythm with her feet. She hummed slightly to herself, happy that she had won the ‘battle’.

Before long, they had arrived at their home. Becky quickly rushed into the house, wanting nothing more but to run to her room and relax after a long (and hard) day at school. John watched Becky run in with a chuckle as he too walked into the house, closing the door behind him.

Once inside, Becky was already up the stairs and into her room as John had only just finished taking his coat off and hanging it on the coat hanger.

“She could have at least put her shoes together neatly.” John muttered to himself as a small smile graced his lips. He took his shoes off and neatly placed them together before sorting out the untidiness of Becky’s shoes.

Once done, he walked into the kitchen to get some food and something to drink. As he arrived into the kitchen, his phone started to vibrate in his pocket, indicating that someone was calling him.

Putting a hand in his back jean’s pocket, he took out his outdated phone and answered the call. “Hello?”

“Hello John, it’s your boss.” John and Becky’s boss said his dull and somewhat irritated voice echoing in John’s ear.

John sighed quietly and rubbed his temples. “Hey boss.”

“Look John, I know you’re still angry with me but what else was I suppose to do? It was either that or no normal life.” The boss explained as John could hear the shuffling of paper.

“Can we just forget about that now? I don’t want my good mood to disappear.” John said with a grumble tone, opening the kitchen’s fridge to get some milk.

His boss sighed. “Whatever you say John. Now have you told her yet?” he asked the same question that he always asked John.

John sighed this time and poured the milk that he held into a glass cup. “No I haven’t and I wish you would stop asking that.”

“Well I’m sorry John, but she needs to know soon.” John’s boss replied, being slightly sarcastic when he said sorry.

John muttered something under his breath but made sure that his boss didn’t hear. “I know, I know, you don’t have to keep telling me.”

“Well I do because sometimes I wonder if you even remember that she is a country. Heck, I bet you don’t even remember that you’re a country either.” His boss snapped at him, obviously tired from the tone of his voice.

“I know fully well that we both are countries, thank you very much.” John snapped back, being sarcastic when he said thank you.

“Don’t you snap back at me, boy. I’m the boss here.”

“Well if you were, then why am I doing all the work?” John retorted, placing the glass cup of milk on the counter, not wanting to break it out of irritation of his boss.

“You know fully well that I’m working too. Now stop with the attitude and get your sister to become a strong country!” His boss shouted in the phone.

“I don’t have a flipping attitude! And I’ll have you know that when I’m done with helping Becky, that she’ll be the best goddamn country to live!” John shouted back at his boss, gripping the phone tightly.

“Good! Now get to it!” his boss yelled. You could hear the sound of his finger clawing into his desk.

“Oh I will!” John yelled back, moving the phone from out of his ear and aggressively pressing the hang up button. He then out of the spur of the angry moment, threw his old phone at the wall, effectively breaking it.

“Damn it…” John muttered under his breath as he regained his composure. He walked over to where his now broken phone was and picked up the pieces of the device.

“I’m going to have to get a new phone…” John mumbled as he placed the now broken pieces of a once working device onto the kitchen counter.

John was so lost in the conversation and the spur of the moment that he hadn’t even realized that someone was standing in the doorway of the kitchen.

“B-brother…?” a quiet, familiar voice asked. John’s eyes widened as he immediately recognized the voice. He quickly turned to look at the figure that stood in the doorway, his expectations confirmed as to whom he thought was there.

“W-what d-do you mean that I’m a…country?” Becky asked, her eyes were wide like saucers and she seemed to be glued on the spot, not looking as if she would ever move.

“I-I’m a country?”

Here my lovelies! The next chapter of My New Life is here!

Now, I hope you all enjoy it and I'm sorry for it being super short, I promise that I'll try my best to make the next chapter longer. But I thought that I would ruin the chapter if I made it any longer then that.
